Allow your microphone, then play Morse nearby. Sound stays on this device.

Audio, video and images are processed in your browser. Your files are not uploaded.

1 · Prepare a short message

Play a known Morse phrase from another device or speaker. Start in a quiet room so you can distinguish the tones from surrounding sound.

2 · Allow and start capture

Choose the microphone input, allow browser access and start recording. Keep the source audible without placing a loud speaker against the microphone.

3 · Compare what you heard

Write down your own interpretation, stop capture and compare the result. Replay the recording when a letter or pause differs.

A small listening experiment

Use a message whose text you already know. First listen without reading the output; then compare your notes with both the source message and the decoded text. If both your notes and the decoder disagree with the source, try a clearer playback before increasing the speed or adding noise.

When the microphone hears nothing useful

Check the browser microphone permission and the operating system input selection. Make sure the source is playing through a speaker rather than only through headphones. If another application is using the device, close it and retry. Reduce background music and avoid replaying the captured sound into the microphone while recording.

Practice separating two short letters

.... .. = HI

Generate HI in the text translator and play it from a second device. Listen for four short tones, a letter gap, then two short tones. Compare your written answer with the source before checking the microphone result; this is a practice exercise, not a measured accuracy test.

Questions before you start

Can it listen to sound playing only in my headphones?

The microphone normally hears the room, so headphone audio may not reach it. Use a speaker or a supported browser-tab audio capture option instead.

Why does the live text change while I am listening?

A rolling interpretation can be revised as more timing information arrives. Stop capture and review complete characters before keeping the result.

What is the difference from the CW decoder?

Both use the same microphone decoding engine. This page guides short listening exercises and capture setup; the CW page focuses on receiver audio, changing senders and reviewing radio transmissions.
